I have to spend about 15 minutes every day removing spam from my in box in Outlook Express.

Is it possible only to receive emails from people in your address book? Or is there some other way of stopping it, I have Avast as a virus blocker, and Spybot for anti malware, these offer anti spam programmes but charge you for them. Are they any use?

I think that part of the problem is that you are still using Outlook Express.

This is a very ancient programme (in computing terms) and has long been abandoned by Microsoft who no longer support it or provide updates for it. More modern email programmes include some very good spam filters which do most of the work for you pretty effectively.

In your case you might have a look at Mozilla Thunderbird, which is free, is updated and compatible with all systems. It feels fairly like Outlook Express to use, so you should not have too much difficulty learning it. You can read about it here. An alternative is to move to a web based system like Gmail or Yahoo, which also include the Spam protection as standard.

If you are determined to stick with Outlook Express (the devil you know, and so on), then have a look at Mailwasher, which will filter your emails for you before you get them. It's very effective and also free, although they do have a Pro version that costs something.
